Transform Mental Health in Africa

Right Flourish

Depression is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide — yet in sub-Saharan Africa, fewer than one in ten people affected receive treatment.

At StrongMinds, we believe mental health care should be accessible to everyone. Our community-based therapy model is free, proven, and scalable — and with strategic partners, we’re expanding across Uganda and Zambia to reach millions more.

Your philanthropy can help make that possible.

Why Mental Health in Africa

Mental health is foundational to every aspect of human development — education, employment, gender equality, and community resilience.

When a mother, student, or young person overcomes depression, the ripple effects reach far beyond that individual. Families strengthen. Children return to school. Communities thrive.

Since 2013, StrongMinds has treated over 250,000 people for depression.

Our results are evidence-based, with up to 80% sustaining recovery six months after therapy. Each group is led by trained local facilitators — nearly all women — ensuring the solution is African-led and community-rooted.

Partnering for Scalable Impact

We invite philanthropic partners, foundations, family offices, and corporate teams to join us in transforming mental health in Africa.

Your partnership can:

  • Expand access to care: Fund therapy groups in underserved regions of Uganda and Zambia.
  • Train community leaders: Support facilitator training that empowers women to deliver therapy in their own communities.
  • Invest in innovation: Accelerate research connecting mental health with climate resilience, education, and economic opportunity.
  • Build resilient communities: Help integrate mental health into broader development goals across Africa.
Every few dollars funds a full therapy session. Every partnership amplifies long-term change.

Why Partner with StrongMinds

We’ve built a model that’s not just compassionate — it’s cost-effective, evidence-based, and measurable.

Proven:
Over a decade of data confirms our group therapy model effectively treats depression at scale.
Efficient: Each program is designed for replication and local leadership.
Sustainable: Communities continue running groups long after initial funding ends.
Transformative: Mental health care becomes a catalyst for progress in education, employment, and gender equity.

“StrongMinds isn’t just treating depression — it’s creating ripple effects across entire communities.”
