Sean Mayberry

Sean Mayberry is a former diplomat and social marketer who believes there are simple and cost-effective interventions which can improve mental health. In 2013, Sean founded StrongMinds, a nonprofit organization with the mission of scaling depression treatments around the world. With the majority of its clients in Africa, Strongminds treats hundreds of thousands of people each year. 

For his work improving access to therapy, Sean was included in the first TIME100: Health list of healthcare innovators.  He has served as a SOCAP Fellow, a Rainer Arnhold Fellow, a Cordes Foundation Fellow, and a GLG Fellow. He received the Humanitarian Award from the Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health and an Honorary Pardes Humanitarian Prize. Sean and his work with StrongMInds have been featured in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Forbes, The Guardian, the BBC, and The New York Times. His EAGXNordics talk on StrongMinds and mental health has been viewed over 750 times. His TEDx Talk “Solving the Depression Epidemic in Africa” has been viewed nearly 4,000 times.

Prior to founding StrongMinds, Sean implemented successful HIV/AIDS and malaria programs in Africa. He was the CEO for FXB International, an anti-poverty team active in Africa, and the COO for VisionSpring, which provides eyeglasses to low-income populations. Sean also worked for Population Services International as their Country Director in India and the Congo. Previously, he worked for the Intel Corporation and as a Foreign Service Officer. Sean has degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Emory University.
