Pre-natal and postpartum depression can affect a child’s developmental stages, contributing to premature birth, poor nutrition, cognitive delays, behavioral problems, and a higher risk of childhood mental health disorders.

Approximately one in five women experience post-natal depression in sub-Saharan Africa.
Maternal depression is highly correlated with difficulty breastfeeding, and malnourishment in children under the age of three.
What We Are Doing
StrongMinds therapy groups are safe, supportive, and inclusive spaces for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and mothers of infants and young children. In therapy groups, women overcome the isolation of motherhood and provide mutual support, which usually leads to new friendships that continue after therapy ends.
