Ambrose Kanyaryeru

Ambrose is a development and humanitarian professional with slightly over 20 years’ experience specializing in psychosocial care, support and mental health. He holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies of Uganda Martyrs University and Bachelor of Community Psychology of Makerere University.

As StrongMinds Director Global Partnerships, Ambrose leads the organization’s effort to scale into new geographies/countries through integrating StrongMinds work into partners’ activities especially into governments departments and ministries. Through this role, he collaborates with partners and government agencies on projects in countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi or elsewhere where StrongMinds does not have full operational country programs.

Ambrose began his career in 2005 volunteering at Mulago Hospital, Uganda’s largest public hospital, where he provided psychosocial care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS. He then joined World Vision as a community psychosocial facilitator, helping individuals address depression and trauma, particularly in communities affected by HIV/AIDS.

His work evolved over the years as he travelled throughout Uganda, designing and managing long-term development programs. In 2018, he joined Alight (formerly American Refugee Committee), where he managed and developed programs, ultimately taking on a humanitarian mission in East Sudan in 2021. There, he was responsible for the design and implementation of Alight programs supporting refugees fleeing conflicts in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. His extensive experience in community development and humanitarian work, combined with his passion for providing hope and support to disadvantaged communities, eventually led him to a global role at StrongMinds.

Aside from his official duties, Ambrose is a farmer and an African tours and travel enthusiast.
