In November StrongMinds launched a global search effort for the new Executive Director to lead StrongMinds Uganda. After reviewing over a hundred applicants and interviewing a dozen impressive candidates, StrongMinds is proud to announce that Dena Batrice has been selected as the Executive Director for StrongMinds Uganda.
Dena brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked for StrongMinds earlier in 2017 as a Program Consultant and coming onboard as the Interim Executive Director at the end of 2017. Additionally, Dena provides an invaluable bridge between mental health care and program delivery. She brings a 10-year track record as a social worker, with specialized training in international mental health, as well as having strong program, finance and operations experience from her work with the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment (ICAP) based out of Columbia University, including serving as the Deputy Country Director of ICAP Lesotho from 2014-2016.
Sean Mayberry, StrongMinds Founder and Executive Director, shared these words, “Dena was by far our top choice to lead SMU into the future. She comes to our organization with the nearly perfect background for StrongMinds Uganda: over 10 years of mental health experience in the US as a social worker, and a decade of international development experience in program management, finance and administration.”4
