This is the face of depression in Africa.
Sandra* is a mother of four young children. Since fleeing civil war in the Congo, she has called the slums of Kampala home. With little money and no social support, she was desperately depressed. Without StrongMinds’ three-month group therapy she saw no end to her suffering. Sadly, so many refugee women like Sandra suffer. Depression destroys their lives and the lives of their children.
Our simple, proven talk therapy groups have made a difference to over 10,000 women’s lives. Mental Health Facilitators run these groups, identifying depressed women and enrolling them into talk therapy groups, connecting them with other depressed women and restoring hope, dignity and happiness in their lives. Now, Sandra is connected with her peers and hopeful for the future. She is sending her children to school and building her own small business.
Right now StrongMinds is recruiting and training local Mental Health Facilitators. Raising just $4,800 in July will allow us to train two additional Mental Health Facilitators capable of treating another 240 women like Sandra in 2017, who will otherwise continue to suffer alone.
Will you help women like Sandra? Please donate now.
